New millennium diesels for Fiat
Fiat,
a subsidiary of Iveco has developed an entirely new range of engines,
which it claims is at the cutting edge of marine diesel engine design
and manufacture.
Iveco believes the new engines, which comply with current European and
US emission standards, will offer the marine industry exciting new alternatives
backed by over 100 years of Fiat tradition.
The NEF 370, an in-line six-cylinder 6lt engine, has attracted much attention
since its release in Australia. Its performance in the Black Watch 34,
Wild Thing was a highlight of the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show.
Trials have established the superiority of its common-rail injection system
both in terms of performance and cleanliness, the company says.
A variety of versions of the engine - in three, four and six-cylinder
configurations - will round out the NEF series. Three other ranges of
engine will complete the range.
The Cursor 500 is an 8lt in-line six, offering 500hp at 2600rpm. The
first of these engines is expected to land in Australia in early 2004.
Overseas reports indicate that its performance is as exciting as its smaller
counterpart.
A 10lt and 13lt version are also soon to be released, offering a maximum
of 750hp.
Beyond the Cursor is the Vector, and this will take the Iveco range into
previously unchartered territory, the company claims. A V-six, V-eight,
V12 and V16 will extend the power range towards a maximum of 2500hp, doubling
what is presently offered by Iveco. At the bottom end of the range, the
SOFIM series will offer a maximum of 150hp from a common-rail in-line
four-cylinder of 2.3lt capacity.
